Microsoft unveils new Lumia devices in affordable price

Kolkata: Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL smartphones at Mobile World Congress this year and has now, launched these devices in India. The Lumia 640 is priced at Rs 11,999 while the Lumia 640 XL is priced at Rs 15,799 respectively. Both these devices will be available starting from 9th April , with the Lumia 640 being a Flipkart exclusive whereas the Lumia 640 XL will be available in other e-commerce portal and in exclusive showrooms too.

The Lumia 640 comes across as an upgarde to the Lumia 635, the company’s low-end LTE smartphone. Sporting a 5-inch HD display, it packs in an 8-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash and a 1-megapixel front-facing camera. There’s an option for dual-SIM card slots. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM. It has a 2,500 mAh battery.

The slightly higher-end Lumia 640 XL comes with a 5.7-inch display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a 13-megapixel camera with Zeiss optics and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The processor and RAM is the same as the regular-sized Lumia 630. A bigger 3,000mAh battery completes the package.

Speaking at the launch, Kislay Kumar, the director of Microsoft Mobile devices (East) said that, ‘ Consumers now days looking for a device to bring them more flexibility to switch easily between work and play. The Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are the perfect devices that are enablers of productivity, busting the 9 to 5 myth by letting you achieve more, on your own terms. packed with Microsoft services and experiences along with the exclusive office 365 personal subscription offer. Last two years Lumia’s growth were very high. Last year almost 8 crore devices has been sold. And this year we are expecting the double.’

Both devices run Windows Phone 8.1 and also gets the Lumia Denim update, offering features such as Live Folders, one-swipe Action Center and Word Flow. On the storage front, the new Lumia devices get 8GB onboard storage that is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Microsoft is also offering a one-year personal subscription to Office 365 with both the devices. In addition to Office 365, the company will also offer a subscription of 1 TB of storage on One Drive.
