Kolkata: The number of metro services will be reduced from 300 to 284 from Monday onwards.
According to the metro authorities, this is not permanent. This will be on till 21st December. The rail-yard near Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) metro will be changed completely. For this reason, the number of metros have been reduced.
However, the metro services on Saturday and Sunday will remain the same as before. The number of passengers are less on Saturday and Sunday. But the other days, the pressure of passengers are huge. Hence, with 16 trains reducing regularly, will create a problem naturally.
However, as per the metro, the authorities are responsible to keep the situation normal. Though the number of metros have been reduced, yet the time duration between running trains on working days are expected to remain the same. However, they are unsure, what is going to happen after these are applied.
However, they believe that after the construction work gets completed, the situation will become good. After that, there will be more than 300 metro trains running on working days.
According to the railways, there is a portion in between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station, where the metro train has to maintain a speed of 20km/hour. But after the work is completed, this speed can be heightened to 55km/hour. Hence, the time will get reduced.
Apart from this, the rail yard’s Y-siding will also get changed. There a new line will be added. As a result of this, two-way railway movement will be much easier.
