Kolkata: The mercury level rise to 41 41°Celsius, heatwaves and humidity has gripped the city, IMD Kolkata has informed that due to weak monsoon flow and prevailing strong west to North Westerly winds at lower levels, moderate Heat wave condition is likely to prevail over the districts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata during next 48 hours.
On Sunday light showers in some pockets and a cloud cover prevented the mercury from shooting up further during the day time, the rising temperature at night made it extremely uncomfortable for Kolkatans. In fact, the maximum temperature on Sunday climbed down on the Celsius scale. At 34.8 degrees — one degree above the normal mark — it plunged almost five degrees from that of Saturday. The minimum temperature, however, was four notches above the normal mark at 30.4 degrees Celsius.
Met office expects similar kind of weather to prevail till the monsoon rain lashes the city again. For now, the chances of rain are less as the monsoon flow is weak.
