Thiruvananthapuram: Jeje Lalpekhlua scored a brace as hosts India edged past Maldives 3-2 to storm into the title clash of the SAFF Cup football in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Thursday.
While Sunil Chettri opened the account for India in 24th minute, Jeje fired in goals in 34th and 65th minutes to give India the upper hand. From Maldives Nashid (45th minute) and Ali Amdhan (75th minute) scored a goal each but their efforts fell short in taking their team to the title clash. India, on the other hand, reached the finals of the SAFF Cup for 10th time with six of them finishing on top.
In the title clash on Sunday, India will play against the winner of the second semi-final match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, which is underway.
