Meerut: A temple in the name of Prime Minister Modi, the second of its kind, may soon be built at the Meerut. JP Singh, a retired engineer in Western Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, plans to construct a 100 feet statue of Modi in Sardhana town.
Singh, who retired from government service last week, also plans to construct a temple named ‘Modi Mandir’, though he made it clear that it is only being named in the PM’s honour and will not be used to worship the man in anyway. Singh said he will hold a ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ to start construction on October 23.
Singh said that he has already purchased 5 acres of land for the same and is hoping to get BJP president Amit Shah to attend the stone laying ceremony. Singh also said that he expects an expenditure of Rs 10 crore, adding that the amount would be generated via public donations. In February 2015, a temple in Rajkot, featuring PM Modi as the presiding deity, was thrown open to the public.
