Kolkata: After eyeing Pune City mid fielder, Lenny Rodriguez and Subhash Singh, Mohun Bagan has played its card to rope in the Goan midfielder, Romeo Fernandes. Romeo had trapped the interest of the Kolkata giants after playing a handy role in the inaugurating edition of ISL for FC Goa. He was even selected to play for Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense for only 22 minutes.
“I have requested Atletico Paranaense to release me from my loan stint as I would like to be in India to participate in the ISL 2015 for FC Goa,” Romeo confirmed in a statement to the press. The Goan lad was barely afforded an opportunity in the first team at Atletico but was nevertheless grateful for the facilities and care that was made available to him by the South American outfit.
“I would like to thank Clube Atletico Paranaense for the unique opportunity on my football career, offering me, high class facilities of accommodation, nutrition, training, Portuguese classes and introducing me to the Goan family who could helped me settle in Curitiba,” the youngster expressed.
On the other hand, Mohun Bagan officials have almost closed in on Brazilian defender Gustavo Silva who played for Orlando City FC with the likes of Kaka. He is known for playing against the greats like Ronaldinho. If all goes according to plan, the Brazilian defender might be seen giving leadership to the Bagan defence. He is expected to arrive at Kolkata in the second week of July. The Bagan officials have lately showed their interest on 28 year old Ghanian Samule Yeboah, who has played for BElgian side KRC Genk and a football club of Israel. He has even made international appearance for the national side of Ghana.
