New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have reportedly warned of militants’ plans to execute terror attacks between June 15 and June 17.
Reports suggested that many of the terrorists were holed up in Athmuqam area. The targeted areas appeared to be at Tangdhar and Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the important intel, these terror attacks are being planned not just to target areas in Jammu and Kashmir but also certain places in northern India.
According to the sources, the possibility of major attacks in the northern belt could increase during the last three days of the holy month of Ramzan.
Earlier there were reports of infiltration of over 20 terrorists into Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) recently, the officials said.
According to these sources, the number of terrorists usually spotted at this time in the area is around 60 to 70. However, this year, the number has increased to almost double of the usual count, with nearly 120 terrorists reportedly ready to infiltrate across the border
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district and gunned down three militants in the process.
The infiltration bid was thwarted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of north Kashmir. They said most of the militants are believed to be affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit headed by Maulana Masood Azhar.
The security grid is apprehending a spike in terrorist attacks in the state, particularly in the Valley, the officials said. The security forces have been asked to remain on a high alert and maintain vigil around sensitive security installations across the state, they said.
The Centre on 16 May had asked security forces not to launch operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan unless they are getting attacked.
