Kolkata: Sending jitters among the security circle, police on Wednesday evening seized a huge quantity of explosive materials from a car travelling towards Kolkata on Howrah Bridge in West Bengal.
As per reports, the recovery was made during a routine search and 105 rockets like objects including suspected hardware were also found from a vehicle. Two people including the driver of the car have been arrested, said police. The duo during interrogation gave conflicting statements raising suspicion further.
The experts after testing the material have confirmed that these are highly explosive materials of Chine origin, said authorities. The emergence of Chinese angle on the issue has triggered panic button as ISI and other Pakistan based terrorist groups are believed to be active in the state.
An investigation has been launched by police to probe any terror angle to the issue and determine how the explosives made their way to Howrah.
The recovery, made at a time the state is voting for the Assembly polls 2016 has sparked speculation of a severe security threat. Voting for the third phase will be held tomorrow for 62 Assembly seats spread across 4 districts including Kolkata.
