Barcelona: A masked gunman brought panic to Spain’s Barcelona city centre on Tuesday after shooting at two people who tried to escape by running across a luxury hotel reception. The attacker targeted the pair as they sat outside the four-star Hotel Silken Ramblas near the city’s famous Rambla Boulevard.
They fled through the hotel reception centre in front of shocked tourists to a street the other side of the building in a desperate attempt to reach safety. One smashed through the glass front of the hotel as he ran. The second man was shot in the side. Both were being treated in hospital this evening.
A manhunt was underway for the gunman, thought to have been wearing a green military-style balaclava. Officers have begun the process of gathering evidence in an effort to identify the would-be killer. The authorities have ruled out ani Islamic link to the attack.
