Maoist leader Phool Singh gunned down by police

Raipur: Maoist commander Phool Singh, the commander of Barda dalam was gunned down in a gun battle between security forces and the Maoists in Ghanora police station area in the wee hours of Friday morning.

Acting on a tip off that some Maoists have camped in the nearby forests, police forces were mobilized in the area, according to Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Abisheak Meena.

The Maoists started firing indiscriminately on sensing the police team in the area following which the security forces retaliated.

The firing lasted for nearly two hours after which the rebels started fleeing towards the Jungle. One Maoist was arrested and was identified as Rakesh, the commander of Antagarh dalam.

Later the body of Phool Singh was recovered along with two hand granades, Naxal literature, documents, diaries, medicines and commodities of daily use.

The police have claimed that the diaries and the documents contain crucial details of the Naxal activities in the area. Also, a target list of the Maoists was recovered from the spot.

The arrested Maoist leader is being interrogated by police and they are expecting that important leads regarding Maoist activity in the area will be obtained from him.
