Manjhi’s resignation to Bihar Governor

New Delhi: In a major setback to revolting Chief Minister of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi, 20 ministers of his cabinet have submitted their resignations to the Governor. Manjhi had openly challenged his predecessor Nitish Kumar and JD(U) leadership. The ministers of Manjhi cabinet who are supporters of Nitish Kumar said Manjhi has lost the moral right to continue as chief minister.

Earlier, the former Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar was elected leader at a legislature party meet called by JD(U) President Sharad Yadav on Saturday. Manjhi had dubbed the meeting “UN-authorised” saying the right to call such a meeting rests with him being the leader of the house.

Manjhi had instead called a meeting of the Legislature Party on February 20. The election of Nitish Kumar paves the way for the former chief minister to take over the mantle again by replacing Manjhi whom he had hand-picked to become the chief minister after he had resigned. Manjhi and seven ministers who had sided with him in the Cabinet meeting were absent along with some other MLAs and MLCs. An official release said that Cabinet authorized CM Manjhi to take “an appropriate decision at an appropriate time” on dissolution of the state Assembly.
