Manipur violence: Minster’s house set on fire


Imphal: Violence broke out in the Churachandpur district of Manipur on Monday evening over the imposition of inner line permit given to outsiders. Houses of five MLAs including a Minister were burnt down. Police and fire engines were also prevented from entering the spot by the mob.

The houses which were set on fire belonged to Phungzaphang Tonsimg, Minister of Family Welfare department and five MLAs including Manga Vaiphei of Henglep constituency and Vungzagin Valte of Thanlom.

The mob was protesting against the three Bills which were passed in the Assembly to protect the indigenous people of Manipur. These include the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015, The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh amendment) Bill, 2015, and The Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.
