Priyanka Dutta, Kolkata: Though it is not the proper season of having the national fruit Mango, but the Mango Buds – which is known as ‘mukul’ in Bengali burst out the season of Bengal. The 63 year old, former Union railway minister (March 2012-September 2012) Mukul Roy, Once Mamata Banerjee’s Right-hand Man, slams the Party on Friday in his first public meeting just seven days after joining the Saffron Party.
“I quit Trinamool Congress since the party could not fulfil a single promise that we made before grabbing power,” former Trinamool Congress number two, Mukul Roy says. Former Union Railway Minister Roy predicted that the BJP would come to power in Bengal in 2021.
Roy launched a broadside at chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday in Kolkata when he attacked her and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee on a number of issues. Roy slams the Govt from Saradha scam to dengue deaths and education to health.
He asserted that he was present in a much-discussed meeting at Delo in Kalimpong along with journalist-turned-TMC MP Kunal Ghosh. “Meetings also took place at Pratidin office and the residence of painter Suvaprasannah. Sudipta Sen invested a total of Rs 840 crore in media, tourism and for buying ambulances,” Roy alleged in his speech frequently punctured by applauses from the audience.
“All campaign material, party literature, monograms etc of Trinamool Congress are printed by a company owned by Abhishek Banerjee. Perhaps few in the ruling party know it,” Roy alleged. Further Roy alleged that Abhishek Banerjee owns a company, named ‘Biswa Bangla’ and ‘ Jago Bangla’. The former Rajya Sabha MP alleged that Trinamool Congress has turned into a “limited company”.
“Mamata Banerjee has changed. While common people are dying of dengue, the chief minister is inaugurating a film festival,” Roy said.
The state BJP president, Dilip Ghosh, who was equating Mukul’s joining the BJP as nothing big but a dollop of sauce (chutney/payasam) to add a taste of variety to the staple and basic menu of chawal daal, sobered down.
“The chief minister goes abroad frequently. Jyoti Basu used to go abroad with a few people. But she travels with a huge team to hunt for investments, But no investor has come here . Are investors BJP workers that police would catch them and bring them before you?” Roy attacked Mamata Banerjee.
Trinamool Congress leaders did not immediately offer any comment to Roy’s allegations.
Roy was embroiled in the Saradha chit fund scam and was under CBI scanner in 2015. He was then sidelined from the party, in which he used to enjoy an influential position. On August 30, Mukul was removed as the chairman of the standing committee on transport, tourism and culture in Rajya Sabha for his alleged proximity with the BJP leaders in New Delhi. Roy was also removed as the TMC vice-president after the party decided to restructure its committee.
