Mandsaur Violence: SP, Collector, Pipliamandi’s Town Inspector Removed

Update: Town Inspector of Pipliamandi Anil Singh Thakur removed from field duties in connection with the firing on farmers: police.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government removed the SP OP Tripathi and collector of Mandsaur district, Swatantra Kumar Singh on Thursday  for their reported inability to contain and control the farmers’ protest that led to the deaths of five farmers’ earlier this week.

Collector Swatantra Kumar Singh has been  transferred, Om Prakash Srivastava appointed as the new collector.Superintendent of Police (SP) O.P. Tripathi has also been transferred.

Both were heckled a day before by the family of a protesting farmer killed allegedly in police firing.

Police had opened fire into the crowd which killed 6 farmers. Irked villagers torched vehicles on Wednesday.The union government has rushed 1,100 personnel of anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF) to the violence-hit state.

Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is expected to meet the kin of the deceased farmers in Mandsaur on Thursday. He has however been denied permission.
