Manchester Airport Is Evacuated After Suspicious Package Found

London: Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from Manchester Airport amid reports of a suspicious package. Holidaymakers were cleared from the check-in area inside terminal 2 this evening after a package was found outside the building.

A spokesman for the airport confirmed the departures area was evacuated but would not comment on reports of a suspicious package. Khawer Ishtiaq, who was at the airport to collect his brother, told the Manchester Evening News that people were also not allowed into the arrivals lounge.

He said: ‘The people leaving for flights have not been allowed to leave the departure lounge either. ‘I tried to walk towards my car and a guy from the airport said to get away from the glass. He said they had found some kind of device and it’s tested positive twice.’

The arrivals area of terminal 2 has not been affected, a spokesman said. Flights at the other terminals were operating as normal.
