Update: Manas Bhuiya would have to step down from his new post as the chairman of PAC. After the meeting, it was announced that Manas Bhuiya would have to resign from his post. It has also been said that the Congress party would boycott him if he refuses to step down. This decision would be conveyed to Manas Bhuiya, soon, as per reports.
As per reports, State Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Choudhury called up Abdul Mannan and Nepal Mahato to request them to call up Manas Bhuiya and ask him to resign from his post. According to Adhir, he said that this is being done by TMC to break the unity between the Congress party. He added that Congress would not step onto this conspiracy and hence refuses to accept this post.
Kolkata: Manas Bhuiya has been nominated as the chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday.
The speaker of the West Bengal legislative assembly announced Manas Bhuiya’s name to be nominated as the chairman of the PAC. It is a committee of selected members of Parliament, constituted by the Parliament of India, for the auditing of the revenue and the expenditure of the Government of India.
Earlier, CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty’s name was proposed for the chairman post of PAC. But Biman Banerjee, assembly speaker, rejected the proposal on Monday. The CPM-Congress jointly staged a walk out in protest of nominating Manas Bhuiya instead of Sujan Chakrabarty. Opposition leader immediately sat at a meeting with all the MLAs.
On Monday, opposition leader, Abdul Mannan had submitted written application to nominate CPM leader Sujan Chakrabarty. But as per reports, he rejected his name the moment the proposal reached him. Biman Banerjee said,”The MLAs of the opposition party gets this post. The name that has been proposed, did not get the status as the opposition. Hence, the first proposed name gets canceled. Manas Bhuiya has been nominated to become the chairman of PAC.
