Kolkata: The resident of Howrah who had set himself on fire on Friday in front of the state secretariat at Nabanna, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Bapon Saha, resident of Howrah’s Salkia, suffered 90 percent burn injuries. He was rushed to the SSKM.
The incident occured at 3:30 in the evening on Friday at Vidyasagar Setu. An youth poured kerosene oil on his body and put himself on fire. Bapan started running while ablaze, on the Vidyasagar Setu and towards Nabanna and later on fell to the ground. The police officials rushed to the spot, doused the flame and took him to the hospital.
This incident questions the security of the state’s highest administrative department. How could a person get up on the Vidyasagar Setu and put kerosene oil and set himself ablaze despite the presence of high security.
