London: Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata called on his side to bring back the spirit of the big games and show the rivals that the Old Trafford club still hold the chance to add trophies to their shelf.
Mata’s comments came ahead of United’s second leg of the last-16 clash in the Europa League at home. The Louis Van Gaal-led side lost the first leg by 0-2 at Anfield.
Admitting that it was always special to play against Liverpool and Manchester City, the 27-year-old insisted that his side were absolutely focused to claim victory over the two clubs in their upcoming matches.
Mata urged his side to focus on overcoming the score of Europa League’s first leg as well as on shortening the gap in the Premier League,the Mirror reported.
Van Gaal’s side are currently sixth in the Premier League table and four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City. They also remain active in the FA Cup and the Europa League.
United will play against Liverpool on Friday before heading into the Premier League match against City on Sunday.
