Visakhapatnam: A 45-year-old man, V. Pothuraju, was beheaded near Chinakilarthi village under G. Madugula police station limits in the Agency area of Visakhapatnam District on Sunday night.
He was done to death by some unidentified persons and it is believed that the killers had taken away the severed head of the victim, leaving the torso at an isolated spot by the side of a road near the village, about 1 km from his house.
The incident came to light on Monday morning, when the family members of the victim discovered the torso and identified it with the help of the dress that he was wearing.
According to Inspector of G Madugula Police Station, K. Srinivasa Rao, the victim was a small farmer and the police were yet to come to any conclusion on why he was murdered so violently.
Basing on the preliminary investigations the police said that Potharaju was presumably beheaded with a sharp-edged axe, when he was on his way home. The police do not rule out black magic or sorcery, which is commonly, practiced in the Agency areas.
