Chandigarh: A Dalit man was beaten to death in a village in Punjab on Friday afternoon allegedly for gatecrashing a marriage party.
Jarnail Singh, 40, was attending the wedding function at Gaga village in Sangrur district with some friends when he had an altercation with the organisers, who then attacked him and brutally beaten.
‘While I was returning from school, I saw my father being beaten up by a mob,” the victim’s son told police and added that “by the time I could bring anyone to help rescue him, he was beaten badly.” The man succumbed to injuries and sent to the hospital where he declared dead.
The police say two men who allegedly led the mob have been arrested and booked for murder.
There is tension in the village. Police presence has been increased.
