Kolkata: The state government achieved huge success as it arrested a man allegedly involved in Rabindranatha Tagore’s nobel medal theft on Friday.
A CPM leader, who was a former head of the party itself, was arrested from Shantiniketan. Few months ago, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced that the state government would carry on the investigation as the CBI has massively failed to find out the lost nobel. Following it, the government started it investigations, and within 6 months, they achieved their success. This is the first time anyone has been arrested in this case.
It is being presumed that the arrested man would reveal important information.
The country’s first Nobel Prize, won by Rabindranath Tagore, way back in 1913, was stolen in 2004. Both the medal and the citation are gone from the safety vault of the museum of Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Along with the Nobel, several other personal belongings of Tagore have also been stolen.
