Mumbai: Former Bollywood actor Mamta Kulkarni is back in the spotlight but for all the wrong reasons. The trail for the drug racket, recently busted by Thane police, has led to Bollywood actor’s husband Vicky Goswami, an international drug lord wanted by the US for running a narcotics racket.
The development came after Thane police seized 20 tonnes of ephedrine in a record haul this month. In what was perhaps the country’s biggest drug seizure, drugs worth Rs 2,000 crore were confiscated during the police raid.
Seven people have been arrested till now for their role in the international drug cartel.
Investigative reports reveal that Mamta Kulkarni’s Kenya-based husband Vicky Goswami is the kingpin of the international drug operation.
Goswami, who is currently in Kenya, is likely to face a Red Corner Notice by Thane police. Some reports suggest that Goswami, who is also wanted by the United States’ Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be extradited.
This is perhaps not the first time that Goswami is facing drug racket charges. In 1997, he was arrested for drug trafficking in Dubai and was given 15 years of imprisonment. He later moved with his wife Mamta to the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Thane police is also probing the role of Mamta in the alleged drug cartel scandal.
Mamta, who is believed to be in Kenya currently, featured in several Bollywood movies in the 1990s, including the Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Karan Arjun.
