Kolkata: IPS officer Bharati Ghosh resigned from her post on Thursday following her transfer from the rank of Police Superitendent in West Midnapore district, as the commanding officer of the third battalion of the State Armed Police in Barrackpore. She sent her resignation letter to Nabanna secretariat today.
She had also applied for 90 days leave to West Bengal DGP Surajit Kar Purkayastha. She was transferred from SP rank to a lower post on the Christmas day. Mamata government had ordered transfer of five IPS officers on last Monday including Bharati. Alok Rajouriya was appointed to take Bharati’s place as W.Midnapore SP.
Many speculations were made about Bharati’s transfer to the lower significant post. There were allegations from TMC that she favoured BJP during recently concluded Sabang bypolls. Bharati is considered very close to CM Mamata Banerjee. She had referred the CM as her ‘mother’ before.
West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) Additional Director General of Police Rajesh Kumar was also recently transferred to a much inferior position after he allegedly came close with TMC co-founder and present BJP leader Mukul Roy.
