Kolkata: Election Commission (EC) is closely monitoring the situation in Bengal before assembly polls. It is difficult for all parties to fool the Commission now. But, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken barb at EC, which has irked Congress leadership. Congress has criticized Mamata on her statements about EC, which is aimed at creating pressure on this organization; Congress leadership is meeting Nasim Zaidi on this issue.
Last Friday, Mamata lambasted EC for bringing so many Central Forces to conduct polls in the state. Mamata even ridiculed EC that whether they will bring forces from America! Congress leaders feel that Mamata with her comments at EC is trying to create pressure on them. She is also trying to motivate her cadres—assuring them that there is nothing to fear about EC.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Provincial Congress President, on Saturday said, “Mamata has become as political joker! As a constitutional head of a Government, she has attacked another constitutional body; which has brought shame for Bengal. This is a shame for all! We want that EC take an unprecedented action on her. EC should take action to stop such kinds of threats before first phase of polls in the state itself.”
