Mamata visits Buckingham, meets Prince Andrew


London: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Buckingham Palace on the invitation of Prince Andrew, The Duke of York. She held a meeting with Prince Andrew for nearly One hour. Both of them discussed the problems regarding socio-economic problems faced by Bengal and various other administrative measures.

Speaker of the British House of Lords was also present during the meeting. Along with Mamata Banerjee, Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra, Industrialist Sanjiv Goenka MP Dev. Mamata gifted the Prince with her drawing.

22 MoUs were signed between West Bengal and the British Authorities. Among them 11 MoUs are in the industrial sector, four MoUs on Health and four MoUs on Higher Education were also signed. Two MoUs on Urban Development and 1 MoU regarding transport was signed.

West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra said, “Apart from the MoUs on Industries, the rest of the MoUs were on Social understanding. ”

Prince Andrew gifted Banerjee a scarf an a painting. British Prime minister David Cameron, who is out of the country at the moment, has written a letter to Banerjee for not being able to meet her during her London visit.
