Mamata Takes Jibe At BJP On CBI Controversy


Kolkata: Slamming the role and functions of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has termed them representative of Bharatiya Janata party by saying ‘BJP bureau of Investigation’ on Wednesday morning.

She took to Twitter and wrote that “CBI has now become so called BBI ( BJP Bureau of Investigation ) – very unfortunate!”

In a dramatic midnight action, the government on Wednesday divested CBI chief Alok Verma of his charge and Joint Director M. Nageshwar Rao was asked to take over. Special Directorate Officer of CBI Rakesh Aashthana has been sent on leave. Two floors of CBI office at New Delhi have been sealed as the Central Vigilance Commission has started to raid parts of the office.

All the non-BJP parties after the announcement of change by Modi-led BJP government on Wednesday morning, all the oppositions took an active role to attack them and raised set of questions that bugging people mind.

Talking on the issue, Indian National Congress spokesoperson Randeep Surjewala Tweeted that, “PM Modi seeks to achieve surreptitiously and clandestinely what he can’t do directly to sack the CBI Director. Habitual and perpetual misuse of CBI by Modi government and BJP to tamper fair investigation of serious criminal cases is the reason for this unfathomable mess,”.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury also took to Twitter to criticise the central government’s decision and deemed it as “illegal”.

“The illegal removal of CBI chief by the Modi government to protect their own handpicked officer, against whom serious charges of corruption are being investigated, points to attempts at a serious cover-up to protect his direct links to the BJP’s top political leadership,” he said.
