Mamata Slams BJP, Accuses Of Tarnishing Her Image

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again hit out at the BJP alleging that the saffron party had undertaken a paid social media campaign to malign her image.

Speaking on the occasion of Trinamool Congress organisational polls held in Kolkata on Thursday, Mamata said BJP was spending crores to tarnish her image using social media as weapon. “BJP is spending crores to run social media campaigns against me. They post fake photos and twist my words. We must confront them strongly,” she told party men at the event.

“They have spread canards that I eat beef! But what I eat is my choice. They are liars spreading canards over social media,” Mamata said, after being re-elected as the chairperson of All India Trinamool Congress. Referring to the BJP protest in Puri during her visit to the Lord Jagannath temple earlier this week, Mamata said, “They are carrying out a malicious propaganda. Wherever I go, London, Puri or Delhi, they send workers to disrupt (my visit).”

At a time the two senior Trinamool Congress MPs like Sudip Bandopadhyay and Tapas Pal are behind bars in connection with the chit fund scam and many more likely to face CBI summons over the Narada sting case, Mamata dared the BJP to put all her party leaders in jail. “JAIL KA KHEL KHATAM HO JAYEGA”

“How many leaders will you put in jails? Jail ka khel khatam ho jayega,” she told Trinamool supporters in a bid to boost her party’s morale.

Giving a clean chit to her party men, Mamata reiterated that the central agency was being used to target Opposition parties by the Centre. She even made all her party leaders, who have been named in the CBI FIR in the Narada case stand on the dais next to her while she addressed her supporters. “If they think they can destroy TMC using central agencies, let me tell them our party will only get stronger,” she said amidst a loud applause at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Harping on the need for political unity among opposition parties to fight Narendra Modi’s BJP, Mamata said, “It is the need of the hour for all regional parties to come together for the sake of the nation. BJP lost elections in Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. How they formed government in Goa and Manipur, everyone knows.”
