Mamata Remembers Legend Suchitra Mitra On Her Death Anniversary


Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday remembered veteran Rabindra Sangeet legend Suchitra Mitra on her death anniversary.

“Solemnly remembering veteran Rabindra Sangeet legend, Suchitra Mitra, on her death anniversary,” Ms Banerjee posted on her social networking page.

Born on September 19, 1924, Suchitra Mitra was a singer, composer, exponent of the songs of Bengal’s poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore, professor, and sheriff of Kolkata.

As an academic, she remained a professor and the Head of Rabindra Sangeet Department at the Rabindra Bharati University for many years.

Mitra was a playback singer, acted in Bengali films as well and was many years associated with Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). She was also the Sheriff of Kolkata in 2001.
