Mothers Give Birth While Teachers Instill Values: Mamata


Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addresses the gathering at Nazrul Mancha to present Shiksha Ratna award to teachers on the eve of Teachers Day. Here are the live updates: 


  • People from Bengal are shining all over the world. We must ensure the honour of Bengal is intact across the globe: WB CM

  • 3 out of 4 top districts in Nirmal Bharat scheme are from Bengal. We achieved success in Nirmal Vidyalaya scheme: WB CM

  • Mid-day meal coverage in Bengal is 100%. I congratulate the teachers for this achievement: WB CM
  • Till 2011 there were only 1300 medical seats in Bengal. We added 1400 new seats in four years: WB CM
  • We will distribute cycles to 40 lakh students from classes 9-12. We will expand it to Class 8 in future: WB CM
  • We started Kanyashree scheme for empowerment of girls. 27 girls have been registered. We are proud of them: WB CM
  • Bengal is becoming an educational hub. ITIs and polytechnic colleges are coming up across the State: WB CM
  • 67 model schools have been set up, several schools upgraded in the four years: WB CM
  • 14 new universities and 45 new colleges have been set up in Bengal in the last four years: Mamata
  • We have set up a Little Star board for the welfare of little people. We are working for welfare of backward communities: WB CM
  • We set up a development board for transgenders. We want to empower the marginalised section of society: WB CM
  • Like there is no alternative for mothers, teachers also have no alternative: WB CM
  • We launched ‘Muktir Alo’ initiative for those who are downtrodden and neglected by society. It is our responsibility: WB CM
