Mamata In Solidarity With Kerala Flood Victims

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to twitter on Saturday to express condolences over lives lost in Kerala floods and solidarity to those who are affected in Kerala floods.

Mamata tweeted, “Words alone are not enough. Yet I must tell all my brothers and sisters of Kerala that our thoughts and prayers are with each one of you. Condolences to those families who have lost their loved ones. Strength to those who are fighting the Kerala Floods.”

Most of Kerala parts have been devastated in flood in last few days. Daily life has been completely disrupted and the death toll are increasing regularly. The number has already crossed 170 till Friday. Forecast saying that the condition will worsen in 24 hours. So measures are being taken to prevent the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor P Sathasivam and Union minister KJ Alphons carried out an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions in Kerala. Narendra Modi has also reached Kochi to survey the situation on Saturday. But based on the present situation, Modi’s ariel survey programme has been cancelled.

Central Government has assured reliefs and rescue operations are underway by BSF, CISF and RAF. Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guard are assisting operations in different part of Kerala. Many are assisting locally to overcome the adverse situation. People all around the country are supporting Kerala during the unprecedented situation. Centre said that rescuing those who are trapped remains the top most priority.

The Central Government has ensured that the benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, MGNREGA, various social security schemes, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture reach those affected on a priority basis in Kerala.

Reportedly, the Prime Minister reached Kerala on Friday after the funeral of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was supposed to get accompanied by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the officials.

Before reaching Kerala, PM had tweeted, “Had a talk with Kerala CM. We have discussed on the flood situation. Rescue work underway.” On the other hand, Kerala Chief Minister’s department took to twitter that, it is a devastating flood of this century. The log gates of 80 dams have been opened. 1500 rescue camps have been set-up.
