Mamata Greets All On ‘Devi Paksha’

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday early morning has wished all the everyone ‘Subho Sharodiya’ and welcomed all in the first day of the Devi Paksha.

She took to Twitter and wrote in Bengali that, “আশ্বিনের শারদ প্রাতে বেজে উঠেছে আলোকমঞ্জি, ধরনীর বহিরাকাশে অন্তরিত মেঘমালা, প্রকৃতির অন্তরাকাশে জাগরিত… মহালয়ার পুন্য লগ্নে সকলকে জানাই দেবীপক্ষের শুভেচ্ছা।”

Mahalaya is the first day of the Devi Paksha, the fortnight when the goddess descends on Earth for her devotees. The day is incomplete without the customary listening of Chandipath – incantations to the Goddess Chandi, another form of Goddess Durga.

On this day Maa Durga is invited by the people to descend on earth by chanting mantras. This day also marks the start of ‘Devi-Paksha’ and end of ‘Pitru-paksha’ which is a 16-lunar day period when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors and offer to express gratitude to people who have contributed to our life.
