Mamata Govt To Set Up Kanyashree University

Kolkata: In an attempt to extend the reach of the already-famous Kanyasree scheme,
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that a Kanyasree University will be set up
in the state. In an initiative to stand by the Kanyasrees, Mamata annouced this
decision on the occasion of the scheme’s fifth anniversary on Tuesday.

Till date, all the students under this scheme did not get the money. Girls from families whose income is within a particular limit, used to get money under this scheme. Mamata, on Tuesday, announced that from now onward, everyone will be brought under the benefits of this scheme. While addressing at the Netaji Indore Stadium, she said that the government will be spending Rs 200 crores for this purpose. But she also mentioned that the empowerment of women will not stop due to money.

Another main purpose for the Kanyashree University is to reduce the stress of students after passing out of schools or colleges. She said, “From now on, there will be no more sealing. All students will come under the Kanyashree scheme.”

Mamata had started her pet project Kanyashree scheme in 2013. She said, “Special training will be provided to girl student to empower them with skills.” The CM also instructed Minister of women Sashi Panja and Finance Minister Amit Mitra to look after the new announced aspects of the scheme. 53 Lakh girl students will be benefited from this scheme.

Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee took to twitter to speak on the occasion.

She tweeted, “We are celebrating #KanyashreeDibas today. Out internationally-acclaimed scheme, #Kanyashree won the @UN Public Service Award First Prize. We have empowered 50 lakh girls students in #Bangla through this initiative. My best wishes to the “girl child” and all students.”
