Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee announced to create new districts during her election campaign and for that she had to face the wrath of the election commission. But she didn’t deter her from her promises. During her first official visit after becoming the chief minister of West Bengal for the second time Banerjee announced the creation of three districts – Asansol, Jhargram and Kalimpong.
Banerjee after an administrative meeting at Jhargram that Asansol, Jhargram and Kalimpong will become new districts soon. The proposal has already been approved by the cabinet and the new districts would be announced as soon as the Calcutta High Court gives its nod. “Infrastructure is partly ready in Kalimpong and Jhargram. The rest would be ready soon,” Banerjee said. “The government development schemes should be given importance and implementation of MGNREGA should be given priority,” she added.
‘Khadya sathi’ (a food security scheme and ‘Sabuj Sathi’ (bi-cycle for students) schemes of the government should be given importance. “Implementation of scheme on 100-days work should also be given priority.” She later inaugurated a tribal museum and presided over the first meeting of West Bengal Tribes Advisory Committee.
