Mamata Gives Mahanayak Samman Awards Today

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee  gives away the annual Mahanayak Samman awards at Nazrul Mancha to felicitate the actors and technicians of the Bengali film industry.

The awards were instituted in the year 2012, on the initiative of the Chief, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. The state government felicitates actors, technicians and music directors at this annual event on the occasion of death anniversary of Uttam Kumar, legendary Bengali actor.

Various singers including Haimanti Shukla, Banashree Sengupta, Sabita Chowdhury, Arundhati Hom Chowdhury, Shibaji Chattopadhyay, Sreerdha Bandyopadhyay and others paid tributes to Uttam Kumar through musical performances.

Paran Bandyopadhyay and Jishu Sengupta were honoured with Best Actor awards while Sohini Sarkar received the Best Actor (Female) award. Kaushik Ganguly and Gautam Ghosh were honoured with Best Director awards. Bappi Lahiri was conferred with Mahayanak Samman 2016.

Speaking on the occasion, WB CM said: “We hope and pray the artistes and technicians of Bengali film industry receive worldwide acclaim.”
