Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had directed the police chiefs to initiate strict measures to contain the surge in crimes.
The CM particularly directed Police Commissioners of Howrah, Barrackpore and Bidhannagar to contain the rise in crimes in these three areas. Mamata directed the state home secretary to maintain the law and order in the state.
The above mentioned three areas have recently witnessed a massive surge in crimes; Barrackpore alone registered 82 murder cases, whereas most of them are still unsolved.
At an average 15 serious crimes are being reported from Howrah, Barrackpore and Bidhannagar every month.
