Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she would oversee Trinamul’s Jhargram unit after rural poll setbacks in the Jhargram.
“I will keep charge of Jhargram with me. Give me seven to eight days, I will make changes in the leadership in Jhargram,” she told Thursday’s Trinamul meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium.
Trinamul lost 22 gram panchayats and two panchayat samitis to the BJP in Jhargram. Independent tribal candidates bagged two gram panchayats in an area considered a Maoist stronghold.
On Thursday, Mamata announced that a panel headed by Trinamul secretary-general Partha Chattterjee would examine the causes of the poll setbacks. “The committee will submit a report to Parthada and I will act accordingly,” she said, before removing Ajit Maity as Jhargram Trinamul chief.
