Kolkata: Mayor of Kolkata Sovan Chatterjee ordered on Wednesday to speed up the process of the Joka-B.B.D. Bag Metro project.
On Wednesday, the mayor held a meeting with the rail officer from the Purya Bhavan, police, transport department and the district magistrate of the South 24 Parganas. In the meeting he said that, “A lot of time has elapsed. This time the project must be completed fast. Together the metro rail, police and the government will work. He also added that the hawkers of the proposed route of Behala bazaar and Majerhaat need to be moved away from the area fast. He also advised the officers that their eviction must be done with compassion. All the evicted hawkers would be given an alternate place to live in.
Mamata Banerjee, after coming to power for the second consecutive term, has given orders to speed up the Joka-B.B.D. Bag metro process. This immediate meeting was the outcome of the chief minister’s orders. The mayor said on this issue that, “The work was progressing with great speed while Mamata Banerjee was the railway minister. But later on it got delayed. The chief minister has given orders to speed up the process.”
