Kolkata: The much stirring Ranaghat rape case has been finally handed over to the CBI, said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday. “We have decided to entrust the Central Bureau Of Investigation with investigation,” said Mamata. It has been 5 days that none of the convicts have been arrested by the police. CM herself had to face the public fury when she made her way to Ranaghat to visit the victim. The rape of the 71 year old nun had become a national as well as an international issue. Police could only detain 8 suspects by now.
According to the law, the State government can only propose the involvement of the CBI in a particular case. The nod has to be given by the PMO. Considering the weight of the incident, CM has asked for CBI probe in the Ranaghat rape case.
