Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday set up a tribal welfare committee and appointed Ritabrata Banerjee the head of a committee for the welfare of tribals.
According to sources, the announcement followed a meeting between Mamata and tribal leaders from 12 districts. Other than Ritabrata, the panel will comprise two key representatives of each of the districts.
Heavyweight leaders of TMC such as Suvendyo Adhikari, Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Anubrata Mondal and Santiram Mahato were also present in the meeting. Mamata also ordered to create Whats-app group in the areas to communicate with tribals.
Mamata asked state police to help to build the community development among the tribals. In her meeting with the tribal leaders, Mamata asked them to be on guard against evil forces. The government is with you.
Ritabrata now an Independent member of the Rajya Sabha, has been known for his proximity to Trinamool since his expulsion from the CPM.
