Maldive Rebuff India’s Warn Approach

MALE: Amid international pressure over imprisonment of opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed, Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen on Sunday bluntly told external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj that his government will not tolerate “foreign parties” to interfere in domestic issues.

The assertion was made by Yameen when Swaraj called on him on Sunday during her visit to the island nation during which the two nations restarted the Joint Commission talks after 15 years to strengthen defence and other issues.

“President Yameen stated that country’s integrity and national sovereignty must be respected by all,” his office said in a statement.A statement issued by the ministry of external affairs on Swaraj’s visit to the Maldives, however, made no mention of this.
