Major Theft In Kali Temple Causes Panic Among Locals


Bankura: Properties worth lakhs of rupees were stolen from an old Kali temple in Bankura’s Taldangra’s South Shole village on the wee hours of Saturday. As a result of this, panic spread in the area. The jewellery of Ma Kali were stolen too.

According to sources, this 150-year old Kali temple belongs to the Banerjee family of South Shole billage, which is almost 3 km away from Taldangra police station. Apart from regular prayers, celebrations are done during ‘Kartikeyo Amavashya.’

According to the Banerjee family, unknown miscreants broke the lock of the temple and stole the idol’s gold-silver mixed crown, idol’s tongue made of gold, star made of gold, anklets and other such jewelries. The police assumes that the theft took place in between 1-2 after midnight.

The locals first noticed the theft while they were cleaning the temple area. The informed the police who rushed to the spot and have started an investigation.

The present priest of the temple Nimai Chandra Banerjee said that the thieves stole everything. He also informed that such an incident never took place in the past and demanded punishment for the culprits. The locals are also worried after the incident. They have also demanded for the immediate arrest of the culprits.
