Kolkata: Finally a sigh of relief for residents of Kolkata after four days of intense heat wave that swapped the city.

Alipore Meteorological Office has informed that Nor’westers accompanied by thunder showers would blow over Kolkata within 6 pm on Tuesday evening. Maximum effect of the storm would be felt in North Kolkata.According to the information gathered from Met Office, the storm would blow at a speed of 60 to 70 km per hour. The effect could be felt in Howrah as well.
The mercury was soaring high in Kolkata and its adjoining areas from Saturday onwards. Sweltering heat prevented people from venturing out. So the news of Nor’westers approaching is undoubtedly good news for residents of Kolkata. City might get rainfall on Wednesday as well.
“Depression has been created over Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh. A low pressure trough has been formed in Chattisgarh. Rain bearing winds had begun entering the city from Monday night as a result there is sudden change in temperature,” said J. K Das, director of Met Office.
According to Das, this weather condition would continue for the next 24 hours so on Wednesday the city would enjoy pleasant weather.
The maximum temperature of Kolkata was 36.2 C, which is 2 degree above normal. Minimum temperature was 26.3 C, which is 1 degree above normal. The maximum humidity was 80 per cent whereas minimum humidity was only 52 per cent.
Rain and thunder shower might also occur in West Burdwan and Midnapur districts. North Bengal would also experience rainfall. But the impact of Nor’westers would be less in districts, informed Met Office. Wind will blow at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour.
