New Delhi: Highlighting a major loophole in the security at the Indo-Pak joint check Post of the Attari Border, an NRI rammed his speeding vehicle into the Indian Gate on Zero line in a bid to cross over, on Monday.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which was taken by surprise finally managed to nab him from zero line and handed over to the police. The man was identified as Surinder Singh.
Firstly, Surinder Singh, who is a Canadian national, broke the Customs Gate on the outer border, continuing to speed his Scorpio car. He then broke the barricade meters ahead of the Swaran Jyanti Dwar. Not only this, but he also broke the Indian gate at the zero line, inches away from Pakistani Territory.
The incident happened around 3:45 am and the way the person managed to reach the zero line has put a serious question mark on the security arrangements at the border.
Surinder Singh was later handed over to the police whereas his car was still in the custody of the BSF. The area was sealed and the entry was prohibited.
Confirming this, SSP Amritsar (rural) Jasdeep Singh said, “Surinder Singh is around 50-year-old and is a Canadian National. He hails from village Mehatpur near Nakodar. We are yet to find the exact reason why he did all this but he seems to be upset and during the questioning also, he was singing songs.”
“However, we have booked him under section 307 (Attempt to murder) and other sections for trying to cross the border without valid visa or documents,” added Jasdeep Singh.
