Major Fire Rages at CESE Building in Dumdum


Update: The fierce fire raging at the CESE sub-station in Dumdum has been doused after hours of fighting. The fire brigade deployed 17 engines and sought assistance from Air Port authority and Ordanc factory fire services to terminate the flames. Initially water failed to douse the flames and later foam had to be used.

The fire broke out as one of the transformer exploded while oil was being loaded, which also gave such ferocity to the inferno.

Kolkata: A major fire broke out at the CESE sub-station in Kolkata’s Dumdum area on Friday morning. Eleven fire engines have been rushed to the spot to contain the flames.

As per reports, the fire broke out around 11:00 am and spread to the nearby buildings. The fire engulfed a transformer in the CESE office premises, suspected to be caused by a short circuit.

The situation is turning grave as a petrol pump is located near the building and the congested area is proving a hindrance for the fire fighters fighting the flames. No reports of anyone being injured or killed has been received yet.

A huge police force has been deployed in the area. The incident sparked a massive traffic snarl on the busy Central Jail Xing.
