Mumbai: A major fire has broken out on the Premises of Mumbai Port Trust in Wadala on Saturday. Eight fire tenders have rushed to the spot to douse the flames. A petrol pump in the Mumbai Port Trust which is located off the Eastern Freeway caught fire. No casualties have been reported so far in the incident.
According to Mumbai Fire Services, it was a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) tanker, which exploded while sources claimed that it was a pipeline, owned by the same company but also used by others to transport liquid fuel, which burst.
According to a source, “Hindustran Petroleum Corporation Limited was pumping from its refinery in Trombay to Wadala where they have a depot when the accident took place.”
The extent of damage has not yet been known. The incident has brought traffic to a standstill in the area.
