Kolkata: The Majerhat railway station is just below the Majerhat bridge which
collapsed on Tuesday evening.
The mishap has led to the disruption of train services in the Sealdah-Budge Budge
section. As a result, several passengers are stranded. Four hours into the mishap,
the services are presumed to normalise.
A train started from Majerhat station to Sealdah at 9pm. But it is unclear to the
passengers when is the next train or whether there is any train. There is no
statement from the railways even.
Prior to this, train services were on between Sealdah to New Alipore and from
Majerhat to Budge budge. The services in the section in between was stalled.
Train services were shut down soon after the Majherhaat bridge collapsed on Tuesday
evening. The Budge budge train line is just under the bridge. All train services in
the Sealdah division has been shut down as a result. The Majherhaat station is just
beside the Majerhaat bridge. The railway officials have also reached the spot.
A large portion of the bridge fell down trapping several vehicles including cars,
mini-bus under it. Casualties feared. The disaster management team, police, fire
tending officials are trying to rescue the injured.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on her way to Kolkata from Darjeeling. She is
closely monitoring the situation through her ministers.
