Majerhat Bridge Collapse: Mamata On Way To Kolkata


Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is on a visit to Darjeeling, is immediately returning back to Kolkata after a Majerhaat bridge collapsed on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is closely monitoring the situation. She has assured financial aid to the injured.

Train services have been shut down soon after the Majherhaat bridge collapsed on Tuesday evening. The Budge budge train line is just under the bridge. All train services in the Sealdah division has been shut down as a result. The Majherhaat station is just beside the Majerhaat bridge. The railway officials have also reached the spot.

A large portion of the bridge fell down trapping several vehicles including cars, mini-bus under it. Casualties feared. The disaster management team, police, fire tending officials are trying to rescue the injured.

All city hospitals and nursing homes have been put on alert.
