Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological office at Alipore has predicted light to moderate rainfall in South Bengal districts including the city. According to a senior official at the MeT department, it may continue to rain in the rest of the Durga Puja days in Kolkata dampening the spirit of pandal-hopping.
The official said that a monsoon trough has been spreading over Jamshedpur, Digha and Bay of Bengal. It may further increase the rainfall if a low pressure trough formed in the North West direction of Bay of Bengal and move towards the sea shore.
The pandal-hoppers said that no prediction of rainfall will be able to stop them from going out and soak in the spirit of Durga Puja. The weather office predicted that there is a possibility of rainfall during the puja days in the city and some parts of South Bengal. As per the MeT office prediction, it may continue to rain even if the low pressure disappears. The weather office will publish bulletin within an interval of three hours on the puja days.
The sky in some parts of South Bengal districts may rain on Tuesday on the day of Sasthi. If the low pressure trough marches down to the sea shore, it will bring more rainfall to South Bengal districts. Weather scientists presume that the condition may be further complicated from Saptami as the city and other districts may receive more rainfall.
There will be light to moderate rainfall at North Bengal on Tuesday. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in North Bengal on September 27 on the day of Saptami whereas there may be light rain at North Bengal from September 28-30.
