Maha Sasthi Celebrated In Bengal With Religious Fervour


Kolkata: With the arrival of Maa Durga, the entire looks of Bengal changes and every corner of this city of Joy brightens up. Maha Sashti is considered as the start of the famous Durga Puja.

Sashti means the sixth day after the new moon and from here rituals of the puja starts. The idol of Maa Durga wearing a gorgeous saree riding on her fierce lion with her four children seems to be the purest beauty that exists. In most of the puja pandals as well as houses, the idol of Goddess Durga is brought and accessorized with jewelries on this day.

From Maha Sashti follows with various rituals. Some of the rituals include unveiling the face of the deity and Kalparambho. The puja starts early in the morning and continues. In addition to these, Adibas, Bodhon and Amontron are also the rituals that are performed on this day. In the puja pandals, you can observe people of all ages. Starting from teenagers to elders, everyone enjoys the puja.

Kalparambho is the onset of pujas followed by bodhon. Bodhon is dedicated to the Durga idol. Amontron means inviting Devi Durga and Adibas is the stay of the deity in the puja pandal. Since Bengalis have a believe from a long time back that Durga Puja is actually the arrival of Maa Durga to her father’s place along her four children Gansesha, Karthika, Saraswati and Laxmi, thus mostly the ladies participate in the entire setup.
