Maha Gov announces compensation in hooch tragedy


Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has announced a compensation of Rupees One Lakh to the families of the persons who lost their lives in the hooch tragedy. The total death toll due to the consumption of Spurious Liquor has climbed up to 97 on Sunday. Police have already arrested two persons in connection with the incident in the last 24 hours.

The incident had occurred at Laxmi Nagar slum area near Gamdevi Jurassic Park Malwani in suburban Malad on Wednesday night. Mumbai’s Deputy Police Commissioner Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “The death toll has risen to 97 while 46 persons are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the city.”

The arrested persons have been identified as Mamta Rathod(30) and Agnes Gracy alias Aunty (50) taking the total number of arrests to seven. However the main accused Mainka Bai is still absconding. Police have also seized around 1,000 litres of Spurious liquor from a godown and has arrested the accused.
